Local Area Guide for Argentiere & Chamonix

ChamonixChamonix holidays

Set at the foot of Mont Blanc, Europe's highest mountain at 4,820 Metres, Chamonix has been a major alpine centre since the 19th century and is one of the most visited natural sites in the world.

Europe's highest cable car in Chamonix will take you to the spectacular Aiguille du Midi. The views from Europe’s highest cable car station (3,842m) are literally breathtaking. It is the closest you can get to the Mont-Blanc without climbing it. From there you can ski the famous 16km Vallee Blanche run (a guide is necessary) to the Mer de Glace and catch the Montenvers train back to town.

Chamonix is a fascinating traditional resort with a bustling atmosphere and is excellent for activities of all kinds. The picturesque town of Chamonix offers a good range of attractions with over 100 shops, bars and restaurants, street markets and the famous  a casino. Nearby there is a large amusement park with a death-defying Summer Luge and a “Go-Ape” area

Argentiere

Argentière is considered one of the foremost alpine resorts due to its enviable location at the base of Les Grands Montets - an immense, varied area offering an array of pistes and vast powder fields of off piste in the winter and a universe of extraordinary beauty in the summer.

The old village is in a spectacular setting towards the head of the Chamonix valley and beneath the Argentiere Glacier. The village retains picturesque mountain feel with a large number of traditional wooden houses, as well as ancient farmhouses. There is a newer side too with all the modern shops and services, a variety of cosy bars and restaurants.A free shuttle bus runs into Chamonix (4km) from Argentiere every 15 minutes.
